Immunity-Boosting Spirulina Drink

Spirulina

Spirulina is primarily made of proteins, including essential amino acids that our bodies need. It is also rich in vitamins, minerals, and compounds that have beneficial effects on our health. Let’s learn about the benefits of this algae and how to prepare an immunity-boosting spirulina drink.

Spirulina is an alga that is abundant in tropical saltwater lakes, and it has a bluish-green color. This alga is an excellent food because it contains many nutrients with many benefits.

Furthermore, spirulina contains many vitamins, minerals, and proteins. For instance, it contains nucleic acids, essential amino acids, dietary fiber, chlorophyll, phycocyanin, phytones, vitamin B12, and beta carotene vitamin A. As well as iron, magnesium, calcium, folate, B vitamins, vitamin E, and antioxidants.

Spirulina and Immunity

The immune system is our body’s defense mechanism against attacks from all kinds of disease-causing organisms, including bacteria, viruses, and other parasites. One of the keys to having a well-functioning immune system is a balanced diet.

Additionally, nutritional deficiencies significantly reduce our defense and weaken the immunity. Spirulina helps increase the production of antibodies, infection-fighting proteins, and other cells that boost immunity and help overcome infections and chronic diseases.

Spirulina and Herpes

This alga has antiviral properties that can help suppress HSV because it contains phenolic compounds. Studies have also shown that one of the extracts prevents the HSV from attaching to human keratinocytes, thus preventing it from entering the host cells.

Spirulina and Mental Health

Stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental disorders are common triggers for HSV symptoms. Therefore, patients with this disease should relax and avoid the causes of mental disorders. Spirulina is a source of tryptophan, an amino acid that supports the production of serotonin, which plays a role in mental health. This hormone improves the mood and thus may benefit patients with HSV.
